BASS FISHING CAPE COD

It’s May, let the catching begin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    The bass are shallow now and looking for the perfect day to come up on the beds.  The Mass. BASS FED Nation Youth tournament was held on Ashumet this past weekend. The kids did real well for the lousy weather.  We had 3 days of cold rain and the bass pulled just off the bedding area.  The only fish caught were all on the beds.  I noticed that the fish came up onto the beds later in the morning and early afternoon.  The water temp. is only 57 in most ponds and the forecast for the week is not good for warming them up.  Soon we will get some nice bright days and that’s when you’ll know to go to the beds.  Pre-spawn fish were hooked up in 8 ft of water but my guy couldn’t bring them in. He did well on the beds as he was the only one with 5 fish and won his division– Congratulations Christian. Mass BASS FED Nation held their 2nd tournament on LP Harwich on the 12th.  I was lucky enough to win it with 14.3 lbs.  The water temp. was still only 57-58 degrees.  I prefished on Friday before the tournament– trying not to stick any fish.  I was looking for the 4-6 ft beds— I only found about 7 of them.  The sun went in at noon and then it rained!!!!   I managed to catch the fish on those beds, I believe the other fisherman couldn’t see them in the early morning hours.  Once the sun got up high enough around 10 AM  you could see them easily.  I also had nothing else going-  meaning how to catch the pre-spawn fish.  I simply looked for more beds.  I found 4 more that had good fish on them.  Late in the day with the wind blowing, I started throwing a spinnerbait in the 6-7 ft range.  I caught one small mouth, but it was a good 3 lber.   We have rain and clouds for this week, and the water temp. isn’t going to go up much.  The spawn I believe will be extended this year, even though we had such a mild winter.
